We started our Road trip yesterday and it was sooo much fun already. The car was ready, the backpack got packed and we managed to buy all the necessary utensils before departure. It took around 45 min to drive to the american Borders from Vancouver and around another hour to pass the border control - as usual a bunch of questions included.
The journey was supposed to take around 5-6 hours which should have made us arrive around 6 pm but that never happened :D Due to problems with the navigation system and the fact that there are now 2 idiots instead of only me made us arrive 3 hours later.
The ride through Washington was beautiful and interesting. We had to drive over Seattle to Portland and made a quite long stop at Mc Donalds. I was definitely a little bit disappointed as I was expecting crazy big portions but only got the normal amount of food. Somehow the american Sim card I had from my last visit to New York was not working and still isn´t. ( I´m listening to Hotline music for about 30 mins while I´m writing that post) Anyways we were trying to find the reason and repair it with getting information in the MCD wifi.
When we finally arrived at our Couchsurfing Hosts house we had to realize that we were 10 mins late and missed the great opportunity to sleep in a bed. Now we were looking forward to an awesome night on the floor. As I´ve never done sleeping on the floor before I was quite shocked but Lucas and I made 1000 of jokes about it which made me work on my mindset and see it as an adventure! It wasn´t too bad except of the "chainsaw snorring concert" from each of our 3 floor sleeping buddies who arrived after us and one even left and someone else took his place and started snooring instantly, too!
Portland seems to be really chill and alternative - I definitely got a good vibe of that city and it made me feel home right away. In our first night we visited the the river and had a wonderful view over the city and it´s lights! On the day we decided to go to downtown and later we met up with Tim and headed to the japanese garden and the rose test garden which was great! Again we were eating fast food as a cheap alternative but we absolutely should work on that :D. Later we joined some other couchsurfers with visiting an outside food court which Portland is apparently famous for and a spontaneous barbecue party. Tomorrow we´ll leave Portland to see the Ape Caves in Washington which isn´t quite on our way but we thought that it is worth a visit and head to the Oregon Dunes afterwards! See you soon.....
